7 Yemeni men nabbed over dangerous car stunt in Jalan Sungai Besi

Police say some of them were seen leaning their bodies out and dangerously sitting on the window frames while the vehicles were in motion.

Police have detained seven Yemeni nationals to assist in investigations into an incident involving two cars being driven dangerously along Jalan Sungai Besi here early yesterday morning.

Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said the men, aged between 23 and 26, were arrested in the capital and have since been released on police bail.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 12.30am on Aug 28 while the two vehicles were travelling along Jalan Sungai Besi towards Jalan Bukit Bintang.

“Passengers in both vehicles were seen leaning their bodies out and dangerously sitting on the window frames while the vehicles were in motion.

“Five of those detained are students at a public university in Kedah, while the other two are university graduates,” he said in a statement today.

Videos of the incident showing the two cars being part of a convoy with their hazard lights on, went viral on social media yesterday.

Zamzuri said police questioning revealed that the dangerous stunt was carried out merely for fun in celebration of a friend’s wedding.

The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for negligent or rash acts endangering human life or the personal safety of others.

The offence carries a penalty of up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500, or both, upon conviction.
