17 escape unhurt as fire breaks out at Jengka Hospital

KUANTAN:

Seventeen people escaped unhurt after a fire broke out at the paediatric and women’s wards at Jengka Hospital this evening.

Maran police chief Wong Kim Wai said police were alerted to the incident at about 7pm.

He said the fire, which started in the ceiling above both wards, was extinguished by the fire and rescue department in 20 minutes.

“Six boys, five girls and six women in the wards managed to escape safely. No one was injured,” he said in a statement.

Wong said initial information from the department indicated that about 10% of the wiring and ceiling structure was damaged.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation. - FMT
