Bumi Economic Transformation Plan 2035 reaches 68% implementation

Implementation of the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (Putera35) has reached 68.55% as of Aug 31, says deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is also rural and regional development minister, said in a Facebook post today that 628 development programmes had been initiated by the relevant ministries and agencies, with 214 completed and another 318 in the implementation phase, Bernama reported.

“To me, the success of Putera35 cannot be measured solely by the number of programmes implemented.

“We should measure the extent to which we succeed in enhancing Bumiputera economic ownership, control and competitiveness,” he said.

Earlier, Zahid chaired the Bumiputera Economic Council steering committee meeting, which focused on strengthening Bumiputera economic resilience and accelerating the implementation of Putera35.

He said the meeting also discussed efforts to strengthen the Bumiputera entrepreneur ecosystem, including follow-up measures on the seven declarations from the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Convention 2035.

The declarations place emphasis on the development of women entrepreneurs, the creation of “Bumiputera champions”, the expansion of export markets, and the strengthening of governance. - FMT
