Sex-video: Inter-faith NGO wants swift action

The Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism is both horrified and disgusted.

PETALING JAYA: An inter-faith NGO has urged the government to put a quick end to the sex video scandal implicating Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim before it causes more damage to Malaysia’s image internationally.

The Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) registered its “utter horror” and “sheer disgust” at the “despicable” way the video was exposed by the three men calling themselves “Datuk T.”

“We call on the government to take swift and firm action against those behind this scandal,” said MCCBCHST president Thomas Philips, labeling “Datuk T” as the “unscrupulous and disgruntled trio.”

He said Malaysians were disgusted and in disbelief over the past week with the graphic narration of the existence and viewing of the 21-minute sex video.

Philips added that the government must distance itself from all forms of deceit while bringing the alleged perpetrators to face the law.

“The government should employ every means to quell the rising anger, disquiet and dismay over this uncalled for sordid and despicable attempt by an unscrupulous few to achieve their own personal disgusting agenda,” he said.

Philips said the council, which represented non-Muslims, was “disheartened” and “uncomfortable” with the whole episode.

“It does no good to the oft heard and repeated phrase ‘Malaysia is a moderate Islamic country’ in international discourses, corridors and cafeterias. No one is fooled anymore.

“Malaysia’s image is further tarnished by irresponsible and selfish leaders like those who acknowledged their shameless involvement,” he said.

Philips said the aim of “Datuk T” to publicly humiliate Anwar “offended the sensitivities of decent people no matter to what race or religion they belong.”

He said the whole “sordid episode” had again brought Malaysia into prominence for the wrong reasons, where in the last few decades the public were treated to numerous financial scandals, social scandals and political scandals committed by those who were supposed to be leaders.

“This latest blue video clip to slander a fellow Malaysian, albeit a Muslim MP, is viewed by our members with great concern and revulsion,” he said, adding that the exposure had now achieved the coveted “Mother of all Moral Scandals” title.

Philips said the whole drama begged the question from the public:“Where is all this leading to?” - FMT
