Police post 'Bersih wanted deaths' video on Facebook

A video has been uploaded to the official police Facebook page to substantiate a claim by the deputy police chief that certain elements had wanted “deaths” during the Bersih 3.0 protest on April 28.

The video was put up at 4.40pm today, about two hours after Khalid Abu Bakar had made the claim at a press conference.

The footage shows a middle-aged protester wearing a yellow Bersih t-shirt and standing behind a barricade, apparently urging people to breach the barriers placed around Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

NONE“We are many and even if there are incidents, it would lead to only five deaths only,” the protester says, while being held back by two other demonstrators including a PAS Unit Amal member.

The recording is replayed several times to enhance the man’s words.

As at 5.35pm, the Facebook page on the video had received more than 110 mixed comments on the posting.

Khalid had backed Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s claim that there were elements in Bersih 3.0 rally who wanted to cause deaths, and said the police are in possession of a video clip.

“I think it is not just the minister who is saying this, but we (police) have evidence,” Khalid had said.

The clip, he said, showed an individual making remarks about deaths during the protest on April 28.

Khalid said the media was welcome to obtain the clip from the police to identify the individual.
However, no action has been taken against the individual yet, because merely saying the words is not an offence under the law, he said.

Watch the video and judge for yourselves:
