MACC report against KJ over umrah trip postponed

Umno Youth grassroots leader Syed Rosli Jamalullail’s plan to lodge an official report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against Youth and Sport Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today has been postponed.
Syed Rosli told Malaysiakini that he is feeling unwell and would proceed to do so at a later date.
The Umno Youth Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka branch deputy secretary was initially supposed to lodge the report at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya this morning.
The report was intended to initiate an investigation into the source of funds used by Khairy to sponsor a recent trip to perform the umrah in Mecca for all 191 of the wing’s division heads and exco-members.
“I heard that Amanah Youth might be lodging a report on the same matter tomorrow,” Syed Rosli (photo) said.
When contacted, Amanah Youth communications director Fadzil Ahamad confirmed that they would be going to the MACC headquarters tomorrow.
“Yes. We will be lodging a report with the MACC tomorrow in order to open an investigation on the source of funds used for the trip,” he said.
In a statement yesterday, Amanah Youth deputy chief Faiz Fadzil had echoed Syed Rosli’s concerns over the source of funds, claiming that it would be impossible for Khairy to afford the trip if just based on his salary as a minister and MP.
Faiz also questioned Khairy’s intentions in sponsoring the entire delegation.
‘Khairy won't disclose source of funds’
Commenting further, Syed Rosli today insisted that Khairy will not voluntarily disclose his source of funds.
“If we (Umno Youth members) ask the Umno Youth chief (Khairy) where did he get the money, he will not answer. It couldn’t have been from his personal account.
“This is why the MACC should investigate the source of funds,” said Syed Rosli who estimated the entire trip could cost Khairy close to RM1.4 million.
Syed Rosli’s MACC report was supposed to be based on a confirmation by Umno Youth exco-member member Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin that Khairy had sponsored the entire delegation, as reported by Umno-linked portal Suara.tv last Friday.
“No comments,” an aide to Khairy told Malaysiakini when contacted today. -Mkini
