PETALING JAYA: Some 10 million people are expected to sign up for MyDigital ID, a national identity management platform, in the first quarter of next year, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
Saifuddin said the 10 million target was set by Mimos Bhd, Bernama reported.
“It’s now in the registration phase and many are registering,” he was quoted as saying.
Saifuddin added that the sooner the system was implemented, the better.
He said MyDigital ID was the right direction for the country in today’s complex world, where one’s details such as personal identification documents could be stored in a phone.
“It has its advantages in terms of security, when it comes to banking or government related matters.”
MyDigital ID serves as a digital self-identification and authentication tool for individuals, designed for use across public and private sectors to verify the user’s identity in online transactions.
It will complement the MyKad system and offers a trusted and secure platform, streamlining online identity verification to curb identity fraud during digital transactions.
Last month, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil assured the public that the initiative would not jeopardise the security of the people’s personal data. - FMT
