PETALING JAYA: Police have detained four Indonesian agents believed to have been helping migrants flee the country through ungazetted routes.
They were among 59 foreigners picked up in a raid along Jalan Kebun in Shah Alam yesterday, Bernama reported.
Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the raid by the Bukit Aman anti-trafficking in persons and anti-migrant smuggling (Atipsom) division was conducted at about 6pm on a house believed to be used as a transit point.
“This operation led to the arrest of 53 Indonesians, including 12 women, five Bangladeshi men, and one Myanmar man, aged between 20 and 56.”
Iqbal said 55 suspects are being remanded for 14 days.
The four agents have been remanded for 28 days, with the case being investigated under Section 26A of the Atipsom Act 2007 as well as Sections 6 (1)(c) and 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/61.
Meanwhile, the Johor immigration department detained 56 foreigners in an operation dubbed Ops Mahir at a construction site in Sedenak yesterday evening.
Its director, Baharuddin Tahir, said the foreigners, all men, were detained after 318 local and foreign individuals were screened during the 3pm raid.
Those detained comprised 13 Chinese nationals, 12 Pakistanis, 12 Bangladeshis, eight Indonesians, seven Myanmar nationals, three Indian nationals, and one Nepalese, aged between 21 and 48. - FMT
