Amanah president Mohamad Sabu leaves it to the party's next central leadership council to decide whether it wants to create an advisory position for a former party president.
Speaking to the media, Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, reiterated his readiness to pass the baton to a new president should the council decide so after tomorrow's party polls.
"It is up to the 27 council members (including three wings' chiefs).
"We have no camp in this party... Whoever the delegates choose tomorrow, InshaAllah all party members will accept the decision and continue to work under the new leadership council that will be announced tomorrow," he said at a press conference after launching Amanah National Convention 2023 in Klang, Selangor earlier today.
The congress is attended by about 1,000 party delegates, who will cast their votes tomorrow to choose 27 leaders to fill Amanah National Leadership Council posts for the 2023-2026 term.
After the election, the 27 council members will choose among themselves to fill the party’s top five positions - president, deputy president and three vice-presidents.
Prior to this, there were rumours that party members wanted current vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa to replace Mohamad as their president.
However, Mujahid stated that he leaves the matter to the council to decide what is best for the party. - Mkini
