“Before he texted me, he told me that he was in constant immense pain after the incident. On behalf of the deceased’s family, I urge the Health Ministry to conduct a probe without fear or favour,” she said.
Sivaperumal, 51, was a dialysis patient with three children.
According to Gunamalar, Sivaperumal was on Dec 4 rushed to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang, Selangor, after complaining of chest pain and was treated there.
The following day, she claimed an X-ray scan showed a 22cm-long guidewire was left in a blood vessel that leads to the heart.
On Dec 9, HTAR director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi assured that the hospital is investigating the allegation.
“The outcome of the investigation will be communicated to the patient or family to control the confidentiality of the information.
“The hospital will not compromise if negligence is found to have occurred while patients are receiving treatment at HTAR,” he said in a statement.
Gunamalar said she had sent a letter of demand to the Health Ministry and HTAR on Dec 12.
“Yesterday, the hospital wrote back to us saying they are still investigating the matter. We will use all legal means possible to hold them responsible.
“The deceased’s family deserves justice and transparency, and we will keep the public informed of this case’s progress.” - Mkini
