PETALING JAYA: A local NGO that collects funds for Palestinians has yet to file for a judicial review of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s decision to freeze its bank accounts.

Aman Palestin’s lawyer Rafique Rashid said they were now appealing to the anti-graft agency to have their bank accounts unfrozen as they wanted to send winter aid to the Palestinians.

“So right now, we are waiting for a response from MACC,” he told FMT.

On Nov 27, Aman Palestin threatened legal action against MACC if it did not unfreeze their accounts within three days.

Last month, MACC froze 41 bank accounts belonging to Aman Palestin and several other companies – which had a combined total of RM15.8 million – as part of an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of RM70 million by the NGO.

The investigation involves claims that the NGO funnelled the money into these companies.

The case is being probed under the MACC Act 2009, the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), and the Penal Code. - FMT
