PASIR MAS: The body of the second girl, who went missing while playing in floodwaters in Kampung Petai Dusun, Baroh Pial, Rantau Panjang, on Sunday, was found today.
Pasir Mas police chief Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said the body of Nur Damia Qaisara Sabre, 11, was discovered at about 7am, about 2km from the location where she and her friend were reported to have drowned.
“The girl’s body was found by the public and has been taken to Pasir Mas Hospital for a post-mortem,” he told a press conference here today.
In the 6.40pm incident, Nur Damia Qaisara and her friend Siti Aisyah Mazi, 11, were playing in floodwaters when they slipped and were swept away by the strong currents.
Siti Aisyah was rescued by the public but later died at Tanah Merah Hospital the same day.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department (MetMalaysia) has issued an alert-level continuous rain warning for Terengganu, Pahang and Johor lasting until tomorrow.
MetMalaysia said the warning covered Dungun and Kemaman in Terengganu; Jerantut, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin in Pahang; and Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi in Johor.
The national disaster management agency (Nadma) issued a disaster operations preparedness notice today, activating state and district disaster management committees in the affected areas.
The agency said committees need to ensure that every temporary relief centre (PPS) is equipped with basic necessities, and each control post has all the necessary operational assets in good condition and ready for use.
“The Nadma national disaster command centre is constantly monitoring the technical information parameters in collaboration with various technical agencies,” the statement added. - FMT
