The senior police officer who was involved in the accident that killed a Form Five student on Friday has tested negative for drugs.
Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri told The Star that around 12 reports have been lodged in relation to the case involving the 44-year-old officer, who is attached to the Kedah police contingent headquarters.
“We have also taken samples of his (the police officer’s) blood and are waiting for the pathology report,” he said, adding that the case was still being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
IGP Razarudin Husain has given an assurance that the investigation will be conducted transparently and fairly.
In the accident around 12.30pm, the victim, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, 17, died at the scene after suffering injuries to his chest and abdomen.
It is understood that the incident occurred after the driver of a Perodua Ativa was said to have been dissatisfied with the victim’s noisy motorcycle exhaust pipe as he (the victim) was riding from SMK Jati back home. - Mkini
