KUALA LUMPUR: Police detained 1,101 undocumented migrants, including two children, and seized contraband worth RM104,000 during a raid at Jalan Silang here today.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said those detained will be handed over to the immigration authorities.
He said the raid, dubbed “Op Khas”, focussed on the illegal businesses that were set up in the area and that it was conducted following police reports, although he did not go into specifics.
About 100 cartons of cigarettes, 80 cartons of alcoholic beverages, and RM34,000 worth of unapproved medicines were seized in the 11am raid.
He said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will also take action against the illegal businesses.
Allaudeen said more operations were in the pipeline.
“It is in line with the government’s aspiration to reduce subsidy leakages, of which undocumented migrants are among the contributing factors,” he said. - FMT
