Four farmers survive Kelantan floods by clinging onto tree

 

Four farmers in Gua Musang, Kelantan, had to cling onto a rambai tree to stay alive when a massive flood hit their vegetable farm during the wee hours today.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the four men were sleeping at the workers’ quarters in a vegetable farm in Pos Blau when water started gushing in at about 5am.

Gua Musang Fire and Rescue Station chief Nor Azizi Che Noh said the victims - two local men aged 69 and two Myanmar nationals - immediately abandoned the premises to seek safety.

“The victims had to leave the house, which was later swept away by the flood.

“They then ran towards a fertiliser storage at the vegetable farm, which had a rambai tree beside it and climbed onto the tree.

“The workers called their employer from the tree, before the employer alerted authorities via the 999 emergency line at 7.31am,” he added.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Azizi said the department dispatched eight personnel to rescue the victims using a boat.

All the victims were successfully rescued at 9.30am. - Mkini
