Malaysians will get to enjoy toll-free travel on all highways nationwide this Saturday and next Tuesday in conjunction with Christmas celebrations.
This was announced by the Works Ministry in a statement this afternoon.
According to the ministry, the toll-free highway will apply to all types of vehicles on Dec 23 (Saturday), as well as Dec 26 (Tuesday).
However, the toll-free initiative does not apply to two highways at the country's border with Singapore, namely the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas in Johor.
"The initiative is carried out to alleviate the people's burden, and to allow them to spend the festival and school holiday break with their families," said the statement.
Maintain safety
The ministry urged motorists to follow the travel time advisory provided by highway concessionaires to avoid getting stuck in traffic gridlock.
"Always abide by safety rules so that all motorists can reach their respective destinations safely and celebrate the holidays with their loved ones.
"The Works Ministry wishes Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate."
Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan recently revealed that on average, the government allocates RM21 million a day to the highway concessionaires through the implementation of free tolls.
This year, he said the government paid out RM80.07 million in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri, RM42.31 million for Deepavali, and RM41.21 million for the Chinese New Year for the implementation of the toll-free initiative.- Mkini
