PETALING JAYA: An old video is being circulated on social media to discredit the immigration department and show congestion at an airport in the country.
Bernama reported immigration director-general Ruslin Jusoh as saying the video, purportedly showing congestion at an airport, was an old one recorded last year at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) in Johor Bahru.
The video had allegedly given the impression that the congestion at an airport was due to an influx of tourists from China.
“The video that went viral was recorded last year after the restrictions on cross-border movement due to Covid-19 ended.
“The video recorded the movement of Malaysians working in Singapore,” he said.
Ruslin denied the video was recorded at an international airport in the country.
Citing records, he said the average outbound and inbound movement at BSI was around 250,000 on normal days. The number would double during festive seasons.
Ruslin advised the public against spreading false information as it could cause confusion and anxiety in society. - FMT
