More than 50 residents of Kampung Bunga Raya in Subang today gathered in front of the Selangor state secretariat building to seek a solution for their long-standing resettlement woes.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, a resident who wanted to be identified as Rishikumar, said they gathered today to seek intervention from Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, with hopes of finding closure to their suffering.
“This issue has been going on for more than 30 years. There were six menteris besar and three state governments in that period. But our problem is yet to be settled.
“We need a solution to this problem, not allocation. For now, we seek the menteri besar’s intervention because our MP and assemblyperson have failed to handle the issue,” he said.
Earlier, the group handed a memorandum detailing their predicament to Khairun Nizam, a special aide to the menteri besar, seeking a meeting with the chief executive.
The Kampung Bunga Raya longhouses are home to 90 families who were relocated there in 1993, due to the stalled Dahlia housing project in Section U5.
The state government had then asked the villagers to move the longhouses located on state-owned land as a temporary measure while promising them new settlement arrangements.
However, the residents were shocked when the land housing the longhouses was recently sold to a private developer. The developer then asked the residents to vacate the land without providing alternative arrangements.
Also present at the event were Satees Muniandy and David Marshel - both representatives from Parti Bersepakat Hak Rakyat Malaysia (Urimai).
“I see that there is no political will to solve this issue. Until now, there’s not a single menteri besar who has gone down to the ground.
“The MP and assemblyperson have also failed to settle this problem, so we want to take it to the menteri besar for a possible solution. If that fails, we will escalate it to the Selangor palace,” they said.
