We’re not the biggest winner in Cabinet reshuffle, says Loke

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said two of its MPs were dropped from the lineup.

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has dismissed claims that the party is the “biggest winner” in today’s Cabinet reshuffle.

Loke said the party was only given one additional post.

“If you look at it, it’s not true we are the biggest winner. We had a net increase of one,” he said at a press conference at the party’s headquarters here.

Gobind Singh Deo is back in the Cabinet as the digital minister.

Loke said they had two MPs removed from Anwar’s administration.

Ramkarpal Singh and V Sivakumar were dropped as deputy law and institutional reform minister and human resources minister, respectively.

Loke said in terms of “net increase”, DAP was in a similar position as Umno.

Gobind shoots down Ramasamy’s criticism

Meanwhile, Gobind dismissed claims by former Penang DAP deputy chairman P Ramasamy that the new Cabinet was a “big disappointment” due to a lack of Indian representation.

Sivakumar was the sole Indian in the previous Cabinet.

“I don’t think it’s going to be an issue. Rest assured that all leaders – not just DAP but also other component parties – are well aware of the problems that exist,” said Gobind.

“At the end of the day, solutions to these problems can be found as we go along.

“We have many leaders from all segments of society who continuously keep us informed of these issues,” he said at a press conference at DAP’s headquarters today.

In a statement today, Ramasamy noted that the human resources portfolio had “traditionally” been given to an Indian minister – usually from MIC.

However, Ramasamy claimed that the portfolio has now been “snatched away from the Indians”.

“Surely, if Anwar had any respect for the Indians, he would have appointed two Indians as full ministers. There are candidates in PKR and DAP who are qualified,” said the former Penang deputy chief minister. - FMT
