YOURSAY | ‘They fail to create real competitive bumiputera business class.’
Bumiputera congress: Explain yourself, Puad tells Ti
Koel: Fascinating choice of language by Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi. Insolence? If former MCA vice president Ti Lian Ker is stating facts, what’s insolent about it?
By calling the government to cancel the Bumiputera Economic Congress scheduled next month, is Ti not asserting his democratic right to address the condition of his own country?
And saying “Ti is insolent for accusing that scholarships, GLCs, civil servants, and contracts are monopolised by the Malays” is very interesting. It signals guilt.
Are you feeling guilty about this statement that you see it as an accusation, Puad? Is there a preponderance of Malays to be found enjoying scholarships, GLC appointments, civil service employment, and so on?
If that is so, how is it an accusation? Ti is merely stating a fact that can be witnessed by the entire nation.
After all this huffing and puffing, your party still lost the general election. Umno lost it because you resisted criticisms and you failed to exercise judgment. You failed because you tolerated and nurtured corruption.
You also failed because every time you were criticised, you got on a high horse about race and religion.
Your party leader stole from the people and Malaysian taxpayers. So spare us this hypocrisy about special rights.
You had no concern for anyone from any other race at the time of your shenanigans. Zip it and learn to work for the country and not for some misguided ideas of race.
Just a Malaysian: No matter how politicians argue about these racial congresses, the reality and truth are that after 60 years of pumping billions and billions, they fail to create a real competitive bumiputera business class.
Instead, they create rent seekers and commission takers who become super rich without any effort. And a mass of unskilled bumiputera who can hardly get by.
By all accounts, bumiputera-ism has failed to achieve greater goals. They can only point to many third-rate professionals and PhDs as the success of bumiputera-ism.
If they stop fooling around and look seriously at themselves, they will not continue to repeat the same failed formula.
Over and over until it has become a joke. Only opportunist politicians like Puad and even our Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are using this stale but popular congress to win votes.
A Little Bit Crazy: Ti is courageous now because he has nothing much to lose.
So, he can speak the truth. Unlike the DAP and PKR, non-bumi elected officials, who are now stuck in their government positions and so have become very quiet.
Anyway, if after 66 years of independence, all the prime ministers are Malay, and all the top government posts are held by bumi Malay, then why do you need the Bumiputera Congress to protect bumiputera rights?
Why continue to divide Malaysian citizens into bumiputera and non-bumi until the end of the world?
I don’t know how ‘proud’ you could be, but certainly, as a Malaysian non-bumiputera, I feel very sorry for you.
But, please go ahead, I suggest the Bumiputera Congress be held every year until bumiputeras become the richest race in the universe.
Wsoi: If having a Bumiputera Congress is no problem. So is having a Chinese Congress, or any other race congress perfectly okay?
It looks as though it’s no problem but actually, it’s a divide-and-rule policy. It’s more important to have a National Congress so that Malay interests and the interests of other races are well taken care of with balance.
If Malays want true national unity, national issues must be addressed with the interests of other races well taken care of.
Having separate congresses is irresponsible. The country will continue to divide and weaken. We will forever be behind other countries.
Milshah: Something worth noting is that this issue was brought up by MCA. There was a previous Malay congress held, where was MCA then?
MCA is becoming more DAP, and DAP is becoming MCA. Power and position can change a party, be it DAP or MCA. Any party will become silent once they taste power.
All these issues are tiring because nothing will change if BN, Pakatan Harapan, or Perikatan Nasional are in government. Or even if DAP or MCA are leading it. Nothing will change.
Except when PAS makes a statement that it will rule Malaysia for the next 100 years, and then people will support Harapan.
BlueFish0451: What more to explain? I thought Ti explained it so well this time. Rarely does a non-bumi politician dare to voice such a truthful and articulated statement.
Puad, this action of Ti should be encouraged, not silenced. Silencing such honest opinions will make you an emperor without clothes.
Pink: Well, Puad lost his position as the head of Batu Pahat Umno.
If not for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, he would be nowhere.
Talk big. He should look at himself in the mirror.
He is desperate now and tries to be a Malay hero. But he could not even be a hero in a small division of a mosquito party.
Optimus: If the previous bumiputera/Malay congresses held in the past half-century are not to be considered useless, would the bumi/Malays still need discriminatory affirmative policies?
If that is not called a failure, I don’t know what is. Puad, please explain yourself. - Mkini
