Govt parties to find common ground at Perak unity convention

As the first state to hold its inaugural Unity Government Convention on Jan 28, Perak is expected to use this platform to find common ground between the two coalitions - BN and Pakatan Harapan - in the state.

The Perak State Unity Government Convention 2024, themed “Madani: Raising the Perak People’s Agenda”, is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Harapan chairperson.

Also expected to attend the event is Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also BN chairperson.

Both leaders are expected to deliver winding-up speeches at the convention's closing ceremony to be held at the Casuarina Convention Centre in Meru Raya in Ipoh.

Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad, who is also Perak BN chairperson, said that the convention would be an important platform to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.

“This effort also represents the commitment of the entire line of leadership to unravel all the differences that exist in order to be able to work together as a strong team to strengthen the stability and well-being of Perak,” he said during a press conference.

Touching on the agenda at the convention, Saarani said there will be a policy speech by him, focusing on the direction of the Perak unity government.

Platform to exchange ideas

He said it would be followed by a debate session by representatives from all parties covering the essence of the policy speech to enable the proliferation of ideas in an effort to strengthen the common agenda.

He said two main forums, namely the Youth Perspective and Raising the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Agenda will also be held featuring panellists from all component parties of the federal coalition government.

“Participation in the convention is only open to leaders and members determined by the component parties based on the quota that has been decided, while only delegates who have passes will be allowed to enter the convention hall,” he also said, adding that approximately 1,500 delegates will participate in the convention.

Also present at the press conference was Perak Harapan chairperson Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
