PN was all talk, no action, says Umno man

Umno Supreme Council member Razlan Rafii said the party, which is part of the unity government, was actively working to reinstate several policies.

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional failed to come up with policies to help Malay-Muslims when it was in power, despite branding itself as a coalition that championed the interest of the community, an Umno Supreme Council member claimed.

“This talk about being the champions of the Malays turned out to be mere rhetoric that PAS and Bersatu were peddling,” Razlan Rafii told FMT.

The 17-month Perikatan Nasional-led government comprised mainly of Bersatu, PAS and Barisan Nasional.

Razlan said on the other hand, BN, of which Umno is the lynchpin, had won over fence-sitters by proving that it was able to defend Malays and Muslims from being ridiculed.

Razlan said Umno, which is part of the unity government, was actively working to reinstate several policies, such as the National Tahfiz Education policy, that had been placed in “cold storage” by former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin.

He was responding to PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s claim that Malays could start deciding who to support in the next general election after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi hinted that cooperation between Pakatan Harapan and BN would continue beyond GE16.

Razlan said PAS should be cognisant of the fact that there was more confidence in Anwar Ibrahim’s government, especially after several PN MPs pledged their support for the prime minister.

“Even PN parliamentarians are losing confidence in their own party. This (pledging of support for Anwar) is proof.”

To date, six opposition MPs, all of whom are from Bersatu, have pledged their support for Anwar, on grounds that they were doing so for the sake of their constituents. - FMT
