PETALING JAYA: Economy minister Rafizi Ramli confirmed that Celcom (CelcomDigi) customers will encounter problems when registering for Padu, a newly launched initiative to help implement targeted subsidies.
However, Rafizi said customers of other telecommunication networks would not face any issue.
“This matter is being handled by the Padu team and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim launched Padu or the Central Database Hub which was set up to ensure efficient delivery of targeted subsidies.
Malaysians are encouraged to register with the Padu database to verify and update their socioeconomic data. Registration for the initiative was opened today for an initial three months.
Anwar said this initiative would also ensure a fairer distribution of subsidies because if the delivery of subsidies was not digitalised, the wealthy would end up benefitting the most.
Meanwhile, numerous users on X expressed their frustration as they were unable to register with Padu.
X user @right_luck_RL uploaded a screenshot showing seven OTP requests that had been made but the registration was still unsuccessful.
Another user, @XianEn2, said she could not verify her ID on the system after 31 tries.
@kurogane_s said her request to submit her income declaration was still unsuccessful despite having completed all the necessary information.
“Hello sir, why does it show that household and income details are incomplete when I have completed everything? I can’t click to submit the declaration,” she wrote.
A CelcomDigi representative later told FMT that the issue had been resolved within the hour. - FMT
