Costly for those who dump rubbish in Ipoh

Mayor Rumaizi Baharin said the city council wants to make Ipoh the ‘cleanest city and the best local authority’ in Malaysia.

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will issue a RM1,000 compound notice on anyone caught disposing of rubbish indiscriminately, and no appeal will be allowed, said mayor Rumaizi Baharin.

He said offenders will face stern action from MBI under the Road, Drainage and Buildings Enactment 1974.

Rumaizi criticised the habit of some residents who are fond of throwing rubbish “carelessly”, describing them as lacking compassion and concern for the city.

He said their actions have tarnished the image of Ipoh.

“It (the compound without appeal) is in line with MBI’s continuous efforts of making Ipoh the cleanest city and the best local authority in Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

Last year, MBI cleaned up 120 illegal dump sites 5,073 times and issued 1,214 compound notices totalling RM498,750. - FMT
