Daim’s wife to be charged tomorrow

Earlier this month, MACC summoned Naimah Khalid and her two sons for questioning.

KUALA LUMPUR: Naimah Khalid, the wife of former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, will be charged in the sessions court here tomorrow.

A source told FMT she will be charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, but did not specify under which provision.

FMT has contacted Naimah’s lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, for comment.

Daim is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) based on information from the Pandora Papers leak, which linked several prominent Malaysians to offshore tax havens.

Earlier this month, the anti-graft agency summoned Naimah and her sons, Amir Zainuddin and Amin Zainuddin, for questioning.

MACC had said they were called to provide information on assets belonging to the family.

The graft busters said a notice was served on Daim under Section 36(1)(a) of the MACC Act 2009 on June 7, 2023. His family members were served notices under Sections 36(1)(b) of the same Act.

Daim and his family have filed an application in court for a judicial review to challenge the MACC investigation, claiming that the probe was unconstitutional.

Last week, Naimah hit out at a report linking her, Amir and Amin to another offshore trust said to possess up to US$52.5 million in assets as of 2020.

She maintained that their offshore assets were never a secret and that they were the result of legitimate business activities and investments, prior to Daim’s entrance into politics in 1984. - FMT
