Deputy minister lodges police report over ‘Dubai Move’ links

Umno’s Abdul Rahman Mohamad said he was in Lipis when the purported discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives took place in Dubai.

PETALING JAYA: Deputy human resources minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad has lodged a police report over allegations he was colluding with the opposition to topple the government.

Rahman, the Lipis MP from Umno, denied any links to the plot, dubbed the “Dubai Move”.

He said the “malicious allegation” of his supposed involvement by a content creator on YouTube, which has since gone viral, had been concocted to create controversy and spark “anxiety”.

Rahman said he was not in Dubai where the supposed meeting between opposition leaders and certain government representatives took place.

“I was in the country, specifically in the Lipis constituency, attending programmes,” he told FMT.

The Lipis Umno chief said such “slander and defamatory claims” should not be made when the unity government was stable, as it had the support of two-thirds of the MPs.

“These accusations are dangerous as they can threaten the country’s political stability and consequently drive away foreign investors as well as affect the economy,” he said.

Rahman said he will take legal action against the YouTube account owner to clear his name.

“Legal action is necessary to ensure that this incident does not recur and to set an example so that certain parties do not write untruths or make defamatory statements on social media,” he said.

Speculation over the “Dubai Move” arose following discussions between opposition leaders and certain government representatives during their recent visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The meeting was allegedly aimed at dividing tasks among “agents” to identify MPs who could switch support to the opposition to form a new government. - FMT
