Economy Ministry has never run any survey on Padu

PETALING JAYA: The Economy Ministry has advised the public to be cautious of giving out any information to unrecognised quarters.

This comes after the Ministry discovered that a survey, launched through Google Forms, had requested information on the Central Database Hub (Padu) system.

“The Economy Ministry has never issued any survey on the Padu system.

“We advise the public to be careful when giving out personal information to unfamiliar quarters,” it said in a Facebook post on Monday (Jan 8).

Padu, launched on Jan 2, is the government’s central hub for data on citizens, aimed at distributing aid and subsidies efficiently and accurately.

The database, which civil servants took six months to build, is part of the government’s overall plan to restructure subsidies for fuel and electricity, which are currently enjoyed by everyone regardless of their income levels.

Aside from just household and individual income, Padu contains data on the number of dependents a person has, their household size, cost of living based on where they live, distance to workplace and assets.
