Kedah Football Association confirms CEO remanded by MACC

Kedah Football Association (KFA) vice-president Muhammad Radhi Mat Din has confirmed that the association's CEO Zulkifli Che Haron was remanded by the MACC yesterday.

He said, however, that the association does not have detailed information regarding Zulkifli's detention along with three other individuals.

Radhi, who is also state Consumerism and Cost of Living, Youth and Sports Committee chairperson, was surprised at Zulkifli's detention and described him as the 'hardest-working' individual in the association.

"We have to wait for a while, give time for the investigation process, see what charges there are (if any)... KFA will also convene a special meeting soon, perhaps today or tomorrow.

"This (special meeting) is necessary because we need to delve into this issue as I do not know," he said when approached by reporters after launching the annual general meeting of the Kedah State Youth Council today.

Yesterday, the media reported that the MACC obtained a three-day remand order until tomorrow for four individuals, including the CEO of a football association in a northern state in the country, to assist in investigating a corruption case involving over RM6 million in 2020.

The four individuals, aged between 40 and 60, were detained while giving statements at the Kedah MACC office between 5pm and 6.30pm on Thursday.

According to sources, the alleged bribery money is believed to be a reward for assisting a company owner in securing contracts for a race circuit construction project and the management, operation, and maintenance of five water reservoirs in Kedah.

When contacted, MACC senior director of investigations Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed their detention and stated that the case is being investigated under Section 16a(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
