KL Tower’s new revolving restaurant to open on Jan 29

Last month, the previous revolving restaurant, Atmosphere 360, shut down after being ordered by the High Court to vacate its rented unit in KL Tower.

PETALING JAYA: A new revolving restaurant will open in KL Tower on Jan 29, after the previous operator was ordered to vacate the premises earlier this month.

In a statement, KL Tower’s management said the revolving restaurant named ARAS would be operated by MKL Cuisine Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd.

It said ARAS would only be open for dinner for the meantime, though customers could book private lunch functions at the restaurant.

The buffet will be priced at RM199 for adults and RM119 for children during weekdays, and RM249 and RM149, respectively, on weekends and public holidays.

Last month, the previous revolving restaurant, Atmosphere 360, shut down after being ordered by the High Court to vacate the rented unit in KL Tower before Jan 4, 2024.

The order was sought by Menara KL and its current owner, Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, against the restaurant owner, Asian Kitchen (M) Sdn Bhd.

Asian Kitchen had filed a suit against Menara KL and Hydroshoppe last year after the latter’s director, Abdul Hamid Shaikh Abdul Razak Shaikh, was charged with allegedly offering bribes to former communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa to expedite the takeover of the KL Tower concession.

Asian Kitchen had sought a declaration that the transfer of shares and ownership from the KL Tower’s previous owner, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, to Hydroshoppe was null and void.

It said the previous management verbally promised the restaurant a three-year extension of its tenancy, prior to Hydropshoppe taking over the management of KL Tower. The new management only allowed the restaurant to remain until the end of the year.

Hydroshoppe then filed a bid to enter a summary judgment against the restaurant, seeking a declaration that the tenancy agreement between the restaurant and Menara KL had expired on June 30. It also wanted Atmosphere 360 to vacate the restaurant unit.

The court ruled in favour of Menara KL and Hydroshoppe, prompting it to execute the summary judgment by asking Atmosphere 360 to vacate the unit. - FMT
