Na'imah vows to fight charge over failure to disclose assets

Na’imah Khalid who is due to be charged in court tomorrow, has vowed to fight.

In a statement tonight, the wife of former finance minister Daim Zainuddin said that she had been informed that she would be charged under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act for failure to comply with an MACC notice.

This section punishes those who do not comply with the terms of any notice issued by the MACC with up to five years imprisonment and a fine of up to RM100,000.

In Na’imah’s case, it was a notice for her to disclose information on assets.

She said she had been informed of this when the MACC showed up at a hospital where Daim was being treated.

“I asked for the charge to be done just one day later on Wednesday after my husband’s medical procedure, but this was refused.

“They insisted I be charged tomorrow.

“I will be in court tomorrow. I will fight this charge,” she said.

She did not specify what ailment Daim was suffering from.

The MACC is investigating Daim, Na’imah, and their children over their wealth in the leak of international financial records known as the Pandora Papers.

The leaks found that, in those records alone, Daim’s children, wife, or known business associates jointly held assets worth at least £25 million (about RM141 million).

Daim and Na'imah have decried the probe as an act of persecution.
