PAS slams Port Klang absentee ADUN: Waste of taxpayers' money

If you can’t attend sittings, do not contest. This was the gist of the message from PAS vice president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to elected representatives who failed to attend assembly sittings and forcing a by-election as a result.

Calling them "irresponsible" and "despicable", Tuan Ibrahim said their actions resulted in public money being thrown away in corruption during any by-election.

"If you are not prepared to carry out your basic duty, don’t contest. It brings inconvenience to the people"” he hit out in remarks toHarakahdaily, believed to be targeted at Port Klang state assemblyman Badrul Hisham Abdullah, who said he would challenge the decision by the Selangor Speaker to declare his seat vacant as a result of his absence.

Teng had earlier notified the Election Commission that the Port Klang seat was vacant after the UMNO state assemblyman failed to attend proceedings for six months since July 5, 2010.

EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar however appeared to have dismissed Teng's powers under the state constitution, saying the final say on the seat's status rested with EC.

'Sudden appearance'

Tuan Ibrahim also lashed out at the absent state assemblyman's sudden public appearance to defend his seat.

"This is truly the work of someone who has no dignity,” said Tuan Ibrahim," he added.

According to him, a similar case happened over the fate of Jerlun UMNO division head Abu Hassan Sarip as the state assemblyman for Kota Siputeh, awaiting the final judgment from the Appeals Court.

Tuan Ibrahim said both cases were a disservice to the voters who elected the duo who could not attend sittings which were held "only three or four times a year".
