Police ‘harassing’ Sri Muda rep, says PKR

PKR has accused the police of “harassment” for going to Sri Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafie’s home in the early hours of the morning without cause.

PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang said the act of going to Shuhaimi’s home at around 1 this morning suggested that the police wanted to put pressure on the assemblyman and the Selangor state government.

“This is unnecessary and totally unacceptable,” he told reporters outside Shah Alam district police headquarters here after meeting police officials to discuss the matter.

The Batu MP, better known as Tian Chua, said Shuhaimi was prepared to co-operate with the police but only if they served the latter with a notice under section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

“So far there has been no official notice issued requiring Shuhaimi’s presence at this police station,” he said.

Chua urged the police not to get involved in political matters and be professional.

“The recently-appointed IGP (Inspector-General of Police) said the priority for the police would be public safety. This thing with Shuhaimi has nothing to do with public safety,” he said.

PKR Youth deputy chief Azmizam Zaman Huri also called on the police to give a guarantee that Shuhaimi would not be arrested unless and until notice was given.

The Selangor Anti-Fraud Coalition (GAPS) and Malay rights group Perkasa last week lodged a police report at the same station against Shuhaimi for allegedly insulting the Selangor Sultan on his website.

GAPS chairman Hamizun Khairuddin said Suhaimi had openly opposed Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s appointment of Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi as state secretary despite protests from Selangor’s PKR-led government in a statement on his website on December 30.

“The statement is like a warning to the Sultan that he will face action from the people,” he had said.

Hamizun added that GAPS will make a police report everyday in all districts until action is taken against the assemblyman. - Malaysian Insider
