Private college expels butt-flashing student

Even with the police still to wrap the case, Cybernetics International College of Technology has decided to expel one of its students for flashing his butt at pictures of the country’s leaders during the Janji Demokrasi rally on Merdeka Eve.

A statement issued by the college said that it would not compromise on any act that went against the law.

The decision was taken even though the third semester student of the Creative Multimedia Diploma course, did it in his personal capacity, the college said.

“It does not at all represent the culture of knowledge practised in Cybernetics,” the statement reads.

Cybernetics also took the proactive step of assisting in the police investigation.

“Cybernetics always supports and embraces the government's aspirations under the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak,” the statement adds.

Former education ministry director-general Alimuddin Mohd Dom is chairperson of the college located in Cheras.

An officer of the college told Malaysiakini today that the student had admitted to the act, verbally and in writing, when summoned by the college on Tuesday.

“After that, the matter was given all due consideration by the disciplinary board and the academic board.

"Based on the evidence, they decided that the student should be expelled for breach of  the college charter,” the officer said.

The student cannot appeal against the decision as it is final, he added.

According to a Bernama report, Higher Education Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the college had considered all options before deciding to expel the student.

Khaled viewed the decision as “appropriate”, since the action by the individual had tarnished the good name of the institute of higher learning.

“The student’s expulsion reflects the stance of the college to refuse to compromise on any action committed by its students that is against the law,” the minister was quoted as saying.

Utusan Malaysia reported today that the student's father has apologised to all Malaysians for his son's act.

A Rahman Abdullah, 53, told the daily in his house at Batu Pahat, that he wished to meet Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor to offer a personal apology.

“My heart was saddened very much when I learned about the behaviour of my son. As far as I know, he is not involved with any political party.

“Maybe he was influenced by his friends or exploited by certain quarters. He should be focusing his time on studies,” Utusan quoted Rahman as saying.
