Teenager arrested for stepping on pictures released
The 19-year old who surrendered to the police yesterday after being accused of stomping on photographs of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has been released, says a Facebook group established to support her.
News of her release on police bail was announced about 2am today, and a photograph showing her standing outside an unnamed police station had drawn 812 ‘Likes' as of 11.20am today. The Chinese-language fan page itself has more than 4,300 ‘Likes'.
Her male friend, who had been arrested while waiting for her at the Johor Bahru Central police station last night, was also released together with her.
The girl was detained yesterday under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, and was one of 11 individuals wanted by police to facilitate investigations into the Merdeka Eve incidents.
The male friend however is not one of the 11 individuals.
According to DAP lawyer Eric Tan, she will appear at a press conference later today at DAP headquarters.
Tan told Malaysiakini that while bailing her and her friend out from the Dang Wangi police station, he also found out that there was another 21-year-old lady who had turned herself to the police last night.
The Chinese Muslim from Penang who resides in Kepong, said Tan, decided to turn herself in after realising that she is one of the 11 individuals wanted by the police.
She was bailed out by DAP lawyers together with the other two.
