Pressure group Gagasan Anti-Penyelewengan Selangor (GAPS) has called on all quarters to respect the role and responsibilities of the state ruler.
GAPS president Hamidzun Khairuddin said the centuries-old Malay rulers institution in Selangor is being tested by the current political imbroglio in the state.
"I regret the wild allegations by several NGOs which accuse the sultan of interfering in the state government's affairs.
"Don't blame the sultan because he is responsible in exercising his duties as stipulated by the state constitution," he added in a statement to Umno Online.
The NGOs, he said, should be pointing their finger at the parties in the Selangor government for failing to manage the administration of the state.
"The people have given the mandate to Pakatan Rakyat in the last general election, so exercise your responsibility, don't fight here and there, and don’t be arrogant," he added.
Quoting the saying that "power tends to corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely", Hamidzun said this is happening among Pakatan parties with regard to Selangor.
"They have forgotten the people and the mandate given to them. They conduct corrupt transactions to buy assemblypersons like buying things in a hypermarket.
"Is this the type of politics which they (Pakatan) want to leave behind for the younger generation in Selangor?" he added.
'Greedy' Anwar to blame
Taking a swipe at Anwar Ibrahim, the GAPS president said the crisis in Selangor was sparked off the by the PKR de facto leader's personal problems.
"He wants to sow the culture of cronyism and nepotism in the state administration by appointing his wife as menteri besar.
"He is greedy and wants to centralise power among his family," he added.
Defending the sultan, Hadmidzun said he is certain the ruler is not interested in meddling with Pakatan’s internal or external politics.
"I call on the people of Selangor to unite and ensure that people's power is respected by the party which has been given the mandate in an election.
"I believe we can help the ruler in ensuring that the Selangor government continues to be strong, transparent and responsible," he added.
