The former Selangor exco from DAP has told menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim that the example of the menteri besar crisis in Perak in 2009 shows a dissolution of the state assembly is not needed.
Teng Chang Khim reminded that the crisis witnessed the change of menteri besar without the need of a special state assembly session to cast a vote of no confidence for the menteri besar.
“The only option for him (Khalid) is to resign or disband the state assembly.
“Now the game is over for him.” Teng (right) said during a press conference at the Selangor State Secretariat (SUK) building today.
“Based on the Perak case, no dissolution, no necessary to do so,” he said.
Yesterday, PKR President Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced that she has 30 state assemblypersons backing her to replace Khalid as MB, which represents the simple majority needed.
Khalid however refused to relent, saying Wan Azizah's majority must be "translated" into a vote of no confidence at the next state assembly sitting, expected in November, and he would in the interim remain as MB.
PKR vice president N Surendran however rebutted Khalid, citing Article 53(6) of the Selangor constitution that states that if the MB "ceases to command the confidence of the majority" he shall tender his resignation and that of state exco.
In 2009 BN took over the Perak state government when three Pakatan reps defected to become 'BN-friendly', and the Perak sultan granted the menteri besar post to BN's Zambry Abd Kadir by virtue of the simple majority he had thus obtained.
