I never mentioned the sultan, says Leiking

PKR vice-president Darell Leiking said his statement against the Hari Raya Aidilfitri sermon by the Selangor Islamic Enforcement Agency (Jais) is not against the Selangor sultan.
This is after Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar accused him of opposing the sultan by taking issue with the sermon praising the Private Member's Bill to amend the Syariah Court (Criminals Jurisdiction) Act, which could pave the way for the hudud.
"There was never any reference at all to the sultan of Selangor as we all know the sultan is above politics.
"Noh and all those who have been twisting and harping on my posting should in fact apologise to the sultan of Selangor for dragging the sultan into their political agendas and for abusing the sultan’s name in justifying their attacks over my posting.
"It is totally unbecoming of a minister and a political leader to put words I have never spoken of and to continuously lie about it," he said in a statement.
Jais last Friday lodged a report against Leiking for deliberately insulting the sultan, in his capacity as the head of Islam and the Islamic authority in the state.
Leiking said his statement was to ask Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali on whether he supports the sermon.
The Penampang MP said PKR's constitution makes it an obligation to party members to uphold the the Malaysia Agreement.

As such, Noh's call for PKR to take action against Leiking is out of place, he said.
He said the implementation of the hudud alters the nature of the federation from being secular, as per agreed by Sabah, Sarawak and Malay when the three nations joined to form Malaysia in 1963.
"Hence my last paragraph of my posting 'It is beginning to look like the extremist are running the state' was in relation to the changing of the federation by the introductiono of the amendments and so many acts and things happening today, and which as a Member of Parliament we all must address," he said.  - Mkini
