Mukhriz Mahathir hopes the Registrar of Societies (ROS) will not hinder Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s application for a new political party.
“We hope the ROS would give due consideration and ensure there is no hindrance, unnecessary obstruction, and so on.
“It is about democracy in this country. If Malaysia purports itself to be a democracy, let this party be registered as usual,” the former Kedah menteri besar told reporters in Putrajaya today.
He was speaking at Kelab Che Det's meet-and-greet session between Mahathir and his fans.
The former prime minister was however unable to be present, due to ill health.
Asked whether there is a timeline for the forms submission, Muhkriz said, “We will do this soon.”
He said there are still issues to be considered before the necessary forms are to be prepared.
“We will wait and see first, because there are many issues that we need to think through first before we can submit the form.
"But hopefully if it is agreed upon by our partners, Mahathir himself will submit the form to the ROS."
