Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says students must develop entrepreneurship skills to become independent and not depend on others for their livelihood.
Speaking at a press conference after launching the UniKL Business School here today, Ismail said students need to develop a sense of entrepreneurship, and not wait to be employed by others.
“The government has provided institutions of higher learning so students can become independent and not depend on others to provide them with a living,” he said, adding that many graduates at present blamed the government when they failed to secure jobs.
“This mentality has to change. The government does not only provide people with jobs, it provides people with an education so that they can become those who provide others with jobs.”
According to Ismail, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) has produced approximately one million entrepreneurs since its inception on March 1, 1966.
A news report in February this year said there were about 200,000 unemployed graduates in the country.
Also present at the press conference was Umno Information Chief Annuar Musa.
