PETALING JAYA: MIC Youth Chief C Sivarraajh has hit back at Marina Mahathir for her snide tweet about MIC, arguing that her father and former Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot be considered a “Gandhi.”
“Marina Mahathir must understand that MIC and the other component parties lost in 2008 and are still fighting to remain relevant because of the racist policies and strategies implemented by Tun Mahathir during his time as PM,” Sivarraajh said in a statement today.
This is the latest salvo in the growing media spat between MIC and Marina.
The social activist had initially tweeted in response to a statement by MIC President Dr S Subramaniam that Mahathir’s actions in forming a new political party would lead to his contributions and achievements being erased from the nation’s history.
“And history will remember MIC’s (contributions and achievements), I’m sure…” Marina had tweeted.
Sivarraajh, however, noted that Malaysian Indian youth today have been angered by the impact felt by the said “racist” policies of Mahathir.
“These policies were racist and did not take the other races into account.
“To me, Tun Mahathir is a great leader for his contributions to the nation’s development, but he cannot point the finger at former PM Abdullah Badawi and Najib (Prime Minister Najib Razak) for the nation’s current state.
“We are only now feeling the impact, the aftermath of the policies from Tun Mahathir’s 30 years’ in government,” Sivarraajh said.
“Just because he opposes Najib and the government does not make him Gandhi, or a leader who isn’t racist.”
Sivarraajh urged the public to read the book “Doctor In The House” if they wanted to know about Mahathir’s racism.
“History will tell about your father’s racist policies,” he said.
