Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari will sue his Kedah counterpart Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for defamation.
This is after the PAS leader accused him of being involved in a scandal with Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan in the Sungai Klang river cleaning project.
Amirudin denied Sanusi’s claims and called it a desperate attempt to divert attention from his ongoing troubles related to the alleged rare earth theft in Kedah.
“Sanusi’s speech was slanderous and is an attempt by a desperate person to divert attention…
“I vehemently deny the accusations,” the PKR leader said in a statement this evening.
Amirudin said he explained the issue in detail during the Selangor state legislative assembly sitting last year as well as in Parliament in March this year.
“After talking to my lawyers, I will initiate an immediate defamation suit against Sanusi over his slander,” he added.
Earlier today, PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily reported Sanusi as claiming that Selangor could incur losses to the tune of RM180 million because of the project.
He also questioned how the business tycoon could acquire a significant stake in a Selangor Menteri Besar (Incorporation)-owned firm.
“… This is hot at the moment, wait for it to explode,” he told a gathering in Jitra, Kedah last night.
Focus Malaysia reported that on Nov 20, 2021, Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) formed a joint venture with Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) to carry out river cleaning, river rehabilitation, and river development in the Klang Valley.
BLand holds a 55 percent stake in the joint venture company while the remaining 45 percent is held by LLSB.
On March 1, Amirudin denied that he and an executive councillor had abused their power in the awarding of an RM700 million river-widening project.
Malaysiakini has also contacted Berjaya Group for comment on Sanusi’s latest allegations.
‘No need to come to Kedah, stop in Penang’
Meanwhile, Sanusi said he raised the issue to remind PKR leaders to take care of their own states instead of poking their noses into Kedah.
“You take care of Selangor. Look at what has happened… In the end, the wealth of Selangor will fall into the hands of these ‘tauke’ (businesspersons),” he added.
Describing Amirudin as a “cokia” (useless) menteri besar who is allegedly more interested in taking care of corporate barons, Sanusi said he safeguards the interests of the people instead.
Recalling Amirudin’s remarks that he would teach Sanusi how to develop Kedah, the latter declined the offer if it involved forming a pact with business tycoons.
“You don’t have to come here (Kedah), just stop at Penang (another Harapan-controlled state),” he added.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has been training the spotlight on Sanusi over his alleged links to a Chinese national wanted in connection with the theft of rare earth elements in Kedah.
Sanusi has denied any involvement in the matter and accused his political rivals of targeting him because of the state elections.
Previously, Sanusi was charged with sedition over his remarks during a ceramah in Selangor that were deemed to have insulted the state’s ruler. - Mkini
