PETALING JAYA: Local broadcaster Awesome TV has slammed the communications and digital minister Fahmi Fadzil’s reasoning for excluding them from the National Day parade.
In a statement, the TV station said the excuse given by Fahmi did not make sense as its contingent had the fewest members among the other media broadcast groups.
“If the reason (to drop us) is time constraints, then why not cut down on the number from other media groups which had many more participants so that broadcast teams could be more fairly represented?
“It’s somewhat ironic that such poor communication came from a ministry that is responsible for government and national communications,” it said.
Awesome TV said it was a matter of concern that this “time constraints” issue was only realised by the ministry just a week before the parade.
Earlier, Fahmi cited “time constraints” as the reason for Awesome TV being dropped from a media contingent in the National Day parade.
He also denied that Awesome TV was singled out, saying that several others had to be dropped from the parade for similar reasons, including e-hailing company Grab and popular beverage supplier, Milo.
Yesterday, a source working at the TV station told FMT they were puzzled by the ministry’s decision to exclude them from the event.
However, the source said the company will not appeal against the government’s decision.
Awesome TV then released a statement saying that they had been dropped from the parade without any reason given. They were only informed of the matter in a letter dated Aug 23, signed by the ministry’s secretary-general Fauzi Isa. - FMT
