BN-Harapan unveils 'golden offer' for Kelantan

STATE POLLS | The joint coalitions of BN and Pakatan Harapan in Kelantan have announced a "golden offer" for voters from the state, if entrusted to form the new state administration after polling day on Aug 12.

Kelantan unity government parties' chairperson Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said the offers comprise four main thrusts - expanding the greatness of Islam; economy; education, women and youths; and setting up the North Kelantan Development Corporation.

"This is our golden offer for Kelantan," said Ahmad Jazlan during a joint function with Harapan, held at the Kelantan Umno building in Kota Bharu today.

In efforts related to Islam, initiatives announced include RM2,000 in assistance for first-time marriage; setting up a new Science and Al-Quran college university; annual assistance for registered “pondok” religious schools; and more positions for al-Quran teachers.

For the people's basic needs, BN and Harapan offered to cancel outstanding Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) bills, as well as to reduce domestic water supply charges.

"Realising the fact that water issues have been affecting Kelantan for a long time, we will increase efforts to restore water supply at a reasonable rate and provide relief to the people," said Ahmad Jazlan.

For land matters, BN and Harapan promised to introduce more tax rebates and to review the statuses of land ownership by private companies.

With regards to infrastructure, BN and Harapan promised free parking in all areas under the administration of its local councils, on top of reducing quit rent and offering up to 50 percent discount for any outstanding payments.

Ahmad Jazlan said initiatives to build local human resources will see more new job opportunities for youths to work in the state, rather than move out as with the current trend.

"We are targeting to create 20,000 job opportunities in various specialised sectors in the next five years, particularly manufacturing and technology," said Ahmad Jazlan, who is also the Kelantan Umno chief.

For Kelantan students in universities outside of the state, Ahmad Jazlan said BN and Harapan will offer free bus or train tickets, twice a year.

He said all youths in Kelantan, who qualify to further their studies at the undergraduate level, will also receive a one-off RM3,000 assistance.

Overall, Ahmad Jazlan described BN and Harapan's "golden offer" as the best opportunity for people of Kelantan to change the future of their state, after more than three decades of being purportedly left behind.

"After in-depth discussions, we agreed to detail these offers that we agreed upon together as our offer for the people of Kelantan in this state election," he said.

Present during the function today were Kelantan Umno deputy chairperson Che Fatmi Che Salleh, Harapan state election director Wan Abd Rahim Wan Abdullah and Kelantan BN secretary Md Alwi Che Ahmad. - Mkini
