'Ceramah snub' - Lau claims he left after failing to meet Hadi, not booted

STATE POLLS | Gerakan president Dominic Lau denied that he was booted from a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ceramah in Sungai Dua, Penang, last night.

Lau (above) claimed that he was not there to speak at the ceramah but to meet PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said arrangements were made for the pair to have a “short discussion on strategy” at the sidelines.

“When he can make it, I cannot make it. When I can make it, he cannot make it,” said Lau, noting how their tight schedules had prevented the two from meeting earlier.

Lau said he arrived at the Sungai Dua ceramah after nine but Hadi was late.

“He (Hadi) arrived somewhere around 10.30pm. We couldn’t meet because he had to go up to the stage.

“I just left. That’s all. Because the objective (of meeting) could not be achieved… This is the whole incident,” he added.

However, Lau said he managed to speak to Hadi over the phone after the ceramah when the latter headed to Alor Setar, Kedah, and “managed to sort things out”.

“I will say that the issue is closed. I don’t really want to comment on this issue anymore.

“We have to move on because we are only left with... How many days? 10 days? Less than 10 days (before polling),” he told reporters.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported how Penang PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim appeared to have snubbed Lau at the ceramah.

When PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad was being escorted on stage, Iszuree walked up to Lau and told him, “Those who are not invited, please stay (do not go to the stage)”.

When someone protested, Iszuree replied: “Tak boleh (no you can’t). You go away.”

Contacted by Malaysiakini, Iszuree, who was supposed to be the candidate for Bayan Lepas - the seat which Lau is now contesting - declined to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, Lau said he has not communicated with Iszuree.

“No,” he replied when asked. “Anything involving PAS, they handle it themselves... We don’t interfere in component party matters.”

“I will leave it to PAS leaders and their wisdom to handle the issues,” he added.
