PETALING JAYA: The police have denied a news report claiming caretaker Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor was arrested this evening.
Bukit Aman corporate communications head A Skandaguru said Sanusi was neither arrested nor had been called in to give a statement to the police.
Earlier, Astro Awani quoting a source, reported that Sanusi, the Perikatan Nasional election director, was arrested.
Sanusi was arrested in the early hours of July 18 as the police were unable to reach the PAS leader ahead of his court hearing at the Selayang sessions court later that morning.
At a press conference at Bukit Aman, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said numerous calls to Sanusi and his aides were rejected, adding that Sanusi was arrested to ensure that he “attended court to hear the charges against him”.
He was charged with two counts of sedition against rulers during a speech at a ceramah in Gombak, Selangor, on July 11.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges. - FMT
