STATE POLLS | DAP has once again found itself on the defensive after the emergence of a video clip depicting one of its members delivering a provocative and expletive-laden speech.
The video clip depicted Lee Khai Ming, an ordinary DAP member, speaking at a party dinner on June 10 in Kajang, Selangor.
In the clip, Lee repeatedly described PAS as a “turban party” and told his audience that PAS reminded him of circumcision. Lee also repeatedly peppered his speech with expletives.
The speech, delivered mostly in Cantonese, was reminiscent of the ones by Hew Kuan Yau, better known by his nickname “Superman Hew”, during the 2011 to 2016 period. Hew eventually resigned from DAP.
The video clip depicting Lee, complete with Malay subtitles, was shared on popular preacher Firdaus Wong’s website last night.
Wong said Lee’s speech contained “3R” elements and thus supported any action taken by the authorities.
At one point, Lee mocked Umno and MCA because some of their leaders had asked DAP for an apology.
To this, Lee said there was nothing to apologise for because DAP’s criticism of BN in the past was valid. In a statement last night, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Lee’s membership has been suspended pending investigations.
Loke stressed that the speech does not represent the views of the DAP leadership.
“The DAP leadership strongly criticises that speech because it was provocative and full of expletives. This old video was being shared at this critical moment to stop the momentum of Pakatan Harapan and BN’s campaign.
“I urge all Harapan and BN supporters not to be influenced by the video clip because it does not represent DAP,” he said. - Mkini
