DAP's Jagdeep made Penang DCM II, Umno gets one exco post

Jagdeep Singh Deo has been named Penang deputy chief minister II, succeeding three-term representative P Ramasamy who quit DAP after being left out of the party’s candidate line-up for the recently concluded state election.

The Datok Keramat assemblyperson will lead the human capital development, science, and technology portfolio.

BN's Sungai Acheh assemblyperson Rashidi Zinol is the coalition's sole representative in the 11-man executive council line-up, as he heads the trade and entrepreneurial development, and rural development committee.

The deputy chief minister I position has been given to PKR's Batu Maung assemblyperson Mohamad Abdul Hamid. He will be in charge of the Islamic development, education, and national unity portfolio.

The new executive council members were sworn in before Governor Abdul Fuzi Abdul Razak at Dewan Sri Pinang, in George Town this morning.

BN's Bertam assemblyperson Reezal Merican Naina Merican (Umno), who was rumoured to be made a deputy chief minister, is not listed in the line-up.

Eight out of the 11-man executive council are DAP representatives, while the remaining are two from PKR and one from Umno. Seven of them will serve in the state government for the first time.

The line-up is as follows (listed with their constituencies and their portfolios):

1. Chow Kon Yeow (Padang Kota) - Chief minister, and exco for finance, economy, land, and communication.

2. Mohamad Abdul Hamid (Batu Maung) - Deputy chief minister I, exco for Islamic development, education, and national unity.
