STATE POLLS | Selangor PAS secretary Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir blamed DAP for blocking the proposed amendment for unilateral conversion of minors to be raised in the Selangor state legislative assembly sitting.
He said the incumbent speaker Ng Suee Lim is behind the reason for the amendment being rejected.
Speaking to PN supporters in Kampung Sungai Yu, Tanjong Karang last night, he urged them to defeat the DAP’s Sekinchan candidate if possible.
Roslan (above) said certain quarters including the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) wanted to amend the state enactment.
At present, the enactment reads that those below 18 must obtain the consent of his or her "mother and father" before embracing Islam. The amendment sought to change this to "mother or father."
“We were worried that after the daughter is returned back to the mother, she will live in a non-Islamic society; what will happen to the religion of the children?
“From my understanding from our assemblypersons, this issue has been briefed to all assemblypersons, meaning that the superior levels of Mais has approved.
“But when it comes to the state assembly sitting, it was rejected, no discussion at all. Why? Because the speaker is from DAP, that one assemblyperson from Sekinchan whom we want to defeat,” he said.
Roslan was speaking in a forum to endorse PN’s Permatang candidate Nurul Noh Omar, the daughter of the former Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar.
Sekinchan is under the Sungai Besar parliamentary constituency.
Roslan then jokingly urged voters who have two votes to vote in Sekinchan after voting in Permatang.
“How dare he block matters involving Muslims, what does it have to do with him?” asked Roslan.
‘Speaker limited use of baju Melayu’
Roslan further criticised Ng for setting the dress code in the state assembly sitting and reprimanded those who wore baju Melayu.
“The speaker from DAP said elected representatives can wear baju Melayu on Fridays only, and lounge suits on other days.
“At that time, Umno and PAS assemblypersons wore baju Melayu; this is our national attire, who are you to say we can’t wear it? Eventually, we were escorted away from the hall.
“These are the rules set by the speaker. Speaker from where? DAP. DAP from where… Pakatan Harapan. Do you still want to vote for Harapan? We Malays have to be conscious,” he said.
Roslan further reminded the people that DAP will get 15 seats in total if “Malay Muslims don’t unite”.
‘Don’t elect leaders who only pray in front of TV’
Roslan also urged the crowd not to vote for leaders who only pray in front of the television.
“Don’t support leaders who don’t pray or pray secretly, don’t support leaders who only pray on television.”
“When there is a television live show, he will sit in front, but when it comes to dancing or singing, he still dances and sings. Don’t choose such a leader,” he said in a likely reference to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. - Mkini
