Nga: N Sembilan success shows DAP-Umno alliance on right track

DAP vice-chairperson Nga Kor Ming said the party’s cooperation with Umno is only about eight months old, and yet the alliance managed to perform well in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

This shows that the cooperation between DAP in Pakatan Harapan and Umno in BN is on the right track, he said.

He was responding to remarks from Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil who said Umno needs to review its relationship with DAP, including the possibility of only cooperating at the government level and not in elections.

“We have to look at things from a positive side and not always take from a negative perception.

“Clearly, Negeri Sembilan is a classic case of how successful the cooperation can be and don’t forget, we have only been ‘married’ or friends for about seven to eight months only.

“Give us three to four years, I am certain the unity government will be even stronger, more stable and headed for excellence,” said Nga (above), who is also the local government development minister.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the pre-launch of his ministry's Excellence Award 2023 as well as the Media Excellence Award 2023 at the ministry’s headquarters in Putrajaya today.

Nga pointed to Umno’s performance in Negeri Sembilan, where the party won almost every seat it contested, as a sign that DAP and Umno’s cooperation is on the right track.

Umno won 14 of the 17 seats it contested in Negeri Sembilan, with Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan leading the pack with the highest majority of 10,280 in the Rantau state seat.

In Selangor, Nga said Pakatan Harapan-BN was also very close to winning a two-thirds majority.

“I would like to express my appreciation and also thanks to our Umno-BN friends who helped campaign for Harapan where we were successful in retaining Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang.

“This is a new beginning and of course, it’s a good beginning,” Nga said.

Aside from Negeri Sembilan, Umno had a disastrous showing in the state elections.

It was completely wiped out in Kedah and Terengganu and only won two seats each in Penang and Selangor.

On the other hand, DAP won 46 of the 47 seats it contested throughout the six states. - Mkini
