Noh paints 'prime minister from DAP' spectre

Former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar has shared his "prediction" that Putrajaya will redraw electoral boundaries in a way that is favourable to DAP.

Speaking at Kampung Sungai Yu in Tanjung Karang last night, Noh said this will provide DAP with more winning opportunities and hence more MPs, ultimately providing the party with a chance of claiming the prime ministership.

"I know (DAP) is not satisfied. In Tanjung Karang, Sabak Bernam, and Sungai Besar, there are only 180,000 voters combined.

"But in the urban areas such as Bangi alone, there are 300,000 voters," he said.

Noh (above) said his prediction will see large urban constituencies being split up, while smaller rural constituencies such as Sungai Besar and Sabak Bernam will be merged.

This, said Noh, will reduce the number of Malay-majority constituencies.

Historical events

He explained that the Federal Constitution does not stipulate that the prime minister must be a Malay and with enough seats, it is possible for DAP to have a prime minister one day.

At one point, Noh asked the audience who they thought would win in seats carved out of present constituencies such as Damansara, Bukit Bintang, and Seputeh, to which the audience replied: "DAP".

The three parliamentary constituencies are DAP strongholds.

Noh said what he was espousing was not racist but instead based on historical events.

He claimed that Kuala Lumpur was sold to the federal government in 1974 by then Selangor menteri besar Harun Idris in order to prevent Selangor from being "controlled" by DAP.

Different story

"Harun made a sacrifice in the hope that the dominant party ruling Selangor is among the Malays.

"However, today it's a different story. What (Harun) hoped for did not become reality and DAP is ruling our state," he said.

Noh claimed that it was for the same reason, Singapore was expelled from Malaysia.

He also warned that should DAP be in power, Singapore will be re-admitted into Malaysia.

"I didn't say it. Tunku Abdul Rahman said it in 1968. Therefore I plead with the youths. Please. If we do not unite, we won't have to wait to be chased out, we will leave this state voluntarily," he said.

Noh is currently campaigning for his daughter Nurul Syazwani Noh, who is PN's candidate for the Permatang seat. She will be facing PKR elections director Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri in a straight fight. - Mkini
